Important Information About QuickTime 7

Welcome to QuickTime 7, the world's digital media standard. Please take a moment to read the important information below.

System Requirements 

• Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or later), Windows Vista or Windows 7

• A PC with at least a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor

• At least 512MB of RAM


Please note: A more powerful computer will deliver better playback performance.


Important notice to QuickTime 6 Pro users 

Installing QuickTime 7 or later will disable the QuickTime Pro functionality in prior versions of QuickTime, such as QuickTime 6. If you are a QuickTime 6 Pro user and you proceed with this installation, you will need to purchase a QuickTime 7 Pro registration code in order to regain QuickTime Pro functionality. After installation, visit the Apple Online Store to purchase a QuickTime 7 Pro registration code.


What's New in QuickTime 7.7.6 

• QuickTime 7.7.6 improves security and is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users on Windows. For information on the security content of this update, please visit this website: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222.

• QuickTime for Java and QuickTime PictureViewer are no longer installed by default. They are removed if you have a previous version of QuickTime on your PC. If you still need these legacy features, you can add them back using the new custom setup option in the installer.


Stay up-to-date 

Updates to QuickTime and other Apple software may be applied using Apple Software Update for Windows. Apple Software Update for Windows is installed with QuickTime 7.7.6.

About Roland's Sound Set for General MIDI and GS Format 

This release of QuickTime includes an instrument sound set licensed from Roland Corporation that makes a complete General MIDI compatible sound set. It also includes additional sounds necessary to make a complete GS Format compatible sound set.


What is the GS Format?

The GS Format is a standardized set of specifications for sound sources that defines the manner in which multitimbral sound generating devices will respond to the MIDI messages. The GS Format complies with the General MIDI System Level - 1. The GS Format also defines a number of other details over and above the features of General MIDI. These include unique specifications for sound and functions available for tone editing, effects, and other specifications concerning the manner in which sound sources will respond to MIDI messages. Any device that is equipped with GS Format sound sources can faithfully reproduce both General MIDI sound recordings and GS Format MIDI sound recordings.
